With its aluminium and stainless steel frame, and its open-ear design, it's instantly recognisable as the retro headphones that soundtracked a generation. Supplied with both orange and blue earpads, you can switch styles in seconds, and at just 38g (excluding cable), it's the lightest headband headphones in our line-up*, comfortable for hours whether worn on-ear or around the neck.

The MDR-3R keeps the natural, well-balanced sound character of the original model, but now refined with deeper bass, extended highs, and clearer vocals. The 23mm driver matches the original in size, delivering a wide, immersive soundstage from an impressively compact fit.

Just like the original, it's wired, but now connects via a simple USB-C® cable, for a stable connection you can rely on. The serrated cable design resists snags and tangles, keeping it tidy on the go.

Also new for the MDR-3R, the in-line remote lets you play, pause, skip tracks, and adjust volume without reaching for your phone, while a built-in microphone enables hands-free calls and lets you talk to your phone's voice assistant.
